  • Manchester University Nhs Foundation Trust
    Research Support Officer
Manchester University Nhs Foundation Trust Oct 2020 - May 2023
    Manchester, England, United Kingdom
In this role I helped to provide comprehensive and efficient administrative support to the trust's research governance activities across Manchester Royal Infirmary and Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. In particular, I helped to maintain and update the trust's Live Portfolio Management System of research studies from study set-up, subsequent amendments, and end of study close down. As part of study set-up I registered studies onto the trust's database, before arranging, assessing and confirming the trust's Capacity and Capability to support each study. This involved liaising with the appropriate Research & Innovation Manager, research delivery team, and support departments; ensuring applications are valid with appropriate supporting documentation and regulatory approvals, and obtaining the appropriate reviews from finance and external bodies. Likewise, following study set-up I ensured records are up to date: that amendments have the relevant supporting documentation, and regulatory approvals, and that the trust has the capacity to facilitate such amendments. I also processed Annual Progress Reports, Urgent Safety Measures, study extensions, closures of studies to recruitment, and End of Study Notifications. The role also required me to administer that national Research Passport System for the trust. This entailed ensuring that researchers have the appropriate certifications and employment contracts to work at the trust, and advising applicants if any further documentation is needed before issuing an Honorary Research Contract or Letter of Access. In this role, I managed a high-volume of work by adhering to SOPs when it cane to updating electronic and paper records, prioritising work, and managing my time efficiently. By liaising with research staff both internally and externally I developed my oral and written communication skills, and knowledge of the bredth of research taking place across the NHS.
