People often ask me “When did you know you wanted to be a Navy Pilot” and others ask “How did you get into Floor Trading and Finance after the Navy?”. I remember the spark and the desire for both were strong at an early age. My father was a Navy Flight Surgeon when I was born at NAS Quonset Point Rhode Island. We then moved to Chicago and to civilian life but every now and then my dad would take us to NAS Glenview for an air show or to meet and bring home some of his former squadron mates as they landed there to remain overnight. This always included a tour of whatever aircraft that pilot or crew were flying. I think it was at those moments, my pre-adolescent self, sitting in the pilot seats of these advanced military aircraft that a fire was stoked, one that grew over time and burns to this day. . I was fortunate to be able to live that dream while spending nearly ten years flying for the US Navy. After 2 Persian Gulf deployments flying helicopters from small decks and a shore duty as a flight instructor in both turbo props and jets, I found myself married with children and decided to leave active duty to pursue my other passion and be home to be an active parent. There was still another unrequited passion I had yet to pursue.Growing up just outside of Chicago many of my friend’s families were involved in business and floor trading in particular. I was often coached in youth sports by those floor traders who always had good stories to tell, made a comfortable living, and were able to work hours which enabled them to coach after school sports. Aviation pioneer Steve Fawcett hired me to be a Floor Trader at the Chicago Board Options Exchange which turned into a 25 year career., I founded of several firms and employed many. As a bonus I was able to form and own an aircraft and aircraft charter company for many of those years. I still remain involved in both finance and aviation and am now privileged to lead an airshow and fly in different historic military aircraft.
