I am a UK Civil Servant with over 20 years' experience developing policy and programmes, managing and leading teams, and building international partnerships to tackle key global challenges. My particular area of expertise is around building and leading teams to identify solutions to complex problems across a wide range of sectors, including food and agriculture policy, trade, energy, climate change, infrastructure, health and education.I am currently Head of Food Security and Food System Strategy in the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). I believe that there is an urgent need for transformation of the food system globally, to deliver better climate, environment, health, societal and economic outcomes. In my spare time I am a Director of Cell Ag UK, a not for profit organisation focused on building a larger, more diverse and more engaged cellular agriculture community in the UK. Prior to joining Defra, I spent over 10 years in UK Diplomatic Service, where I held roles working on a number of policy sectors in Mexico, India and the UK. Before that I worked as a management consultant, providing strategic and risk management consultancy and industry analysis primarily to the metals and mining sectors.
