Tom Guise Email and Phone Number
Print and digital journalist with two decades' experience covering entertainment, lifestyle, technology, video games and culture in London and Sydney.I’ve been a feature writer for FHM Australia, the technology columnist for Australian Men’s Health magazine, had travel writing published in US Penthouse and food reviews featured in the Sydney Morning Herald Everyday Eats and Good Food Under $30 guides. I’ve written for Time Out London, Bizarre, Sky Magazine and Muzik among others.I’ve been the editor of Australian Penthouse magazine and the Essential Guides to Apple products, and I was the launch editor of the Australian Android Magazine. I’ve headed up in-house projects for BBC Worldwide and John Brown Publishing, and helped relaunch magazines for Emap and Disney.I’ve served as sub-editor for four print editions and the international iPad version of Reader’s Digest – the world’s largest paid circulation magazine, and was the sole sub-editor of Open Road, Australia’s National Roads & Motoring Association members magazine – delivering a consistently error-free publication to its 1.5-million-plus readership. As a writer I deliver sharp creative prose that’s entertaining and succinct. As an editor I believe the key to a successful brand is staying true to your audience’s expectations while continually aiming to surprise. As a sub-editor my priority is to preserve the author’s voice and intent, editing invisibly to make any piece as effective as possible wherever it’s published.I’ve also been a professional poker player who qualified for the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event, but that accolade only serves as an ice-breaker at dinner parties nowadays.

Editor, The Red BulletinRed Bull Media House Jan 2016 - PresentLondon, United KingdomThe Red Bulletin is Red Bull’s active lifestyle magazine, published internationally with a print run of over 2.2 million copies a month. Our mission – to deliver stories covering action, adventure, sport, lifestyle and culture that go Beyond The Ordinary, to inspire, challenge and enable our readers.Based in Red Bull’s London offices, I write and commission content for the UK and all global editions. As the editor of the Action! section, filling the whole back third of the magazine, I deliver service-driven stories on adventure-travel, culture, innovation, motoring, technology and entertainment. From skydiving over Everest and scuba-diving with crocodiles, to knowing how to parkour leap across a roof gap – these pages give our readers invaluable knowledge on how to empower and enhance their lives. You could say: we give them wings.I’ve interviewed creators, innovators and personalities from the worlds of science, sport, adventure and film – from the man who broke the Guinness Record for the farthest hoverboard flight (2.25km, if you’re interested) to the actor who portrayed Gollum in the Lord of the Rings films (I even got him to sign my t-shirt). I’ve also taken on a few challenges myself – learning how to ski-jump in Norway from the athlete who held the world record for a decade, and getting behind the wheel of a 850hp NASCAR. -
Technology Writer, Men’S Health AustraliaPacific Magazines 2012 - 2016Columnist for Australia’s best-selling men’s magazine, delivering life-improvement through consumer tech in an accessible, jargon-free voice. I conceived each theme, wrote all copy and supplied images and layout ideas to the design team. I represented Men’s Health as its tech expert at industry events and as a recurring guest on Canberra 2CC radio. Although I’ve left Australia, I’ve continued contributing to MH, this year writing a number of eight-page features on the best gadgets and apps. -
Associate Editor, Technology TitlesCitrus Media 2010 - 2011Overseeing a range of consumer titles covering leading technology brands Apple and Android, I created original content and built magazines from the ground up, tracking market trends and forging strong industry relationships. I also oversaw transition of two print magazines to iPad editions via Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite. -
Editor, Australian PenthouseHorwitz Publishing 2003 - 2007Under my stewardship — the most profitable of the 14 international versions, including the US edition. I took the magazine in a more sophisticated direction with sharper content, original Australian writing, higher-end photography and bolder, sexier covers, to make the brand commercially relevant again. All while slashing the editorial budget by AU$10,000 a month.
-
EditorBbc Worldwide 2002 - 2003Brought in to head up a young men’s lifestyle launch, I created a complete brand and editorial vision with a printed dummy that proved successful in qualitative research — under budget and in just eight weeks. A mainstream mix of entertainment, sport, gear, and style, catering to a core audience of 15-17 year old boys. -
EditorJohn Brown Media Group 2000 - 2001London, United KingdomCharged with developing a magazine aimed at the teen male market, I conceived everything from format and tone to masthead and design. I conducted three focus group tests around the UK, developing a product I believe would have defined this market. Put on hold when JBP sold its consumer magazine division.
-
Deputy Editor, Disney'S Big TimeEgmont Publishing Uk 1998 - 1999Joining a new creative team to relaunch this UK kids’ entertainment magazine, we achieved that goal in two months while still producing the old publication. I performed all editorial tasks, creating fresh content and conducting interviews with celebrities. -
Video Games JournalistEmap 1992 - 1998Writer through production editor to deputy editor at the moment gaming popularity took off. I wrote a third of the 120 monthly pages of MegaTech, defining its witty, informative style. I was on the launch team of Official Sega Magazine — the most successful UK games publication of the 1990s — and joined the world’s first games mag, CVG, on the verge of closure due to falling sales — restoring it as the biggest-selling multi-format title.
