I think of myself as a Swiss-army knife of backends. I have done a little bit of everything all the way down the stack, but I really excel once things leave the UI and enter in an API. I have designed, coded, and secured multiple APIs and designed and deployed anything from networking infrastructure and terminal services to Kubernetes and SaaS. I have automated just about everything and designed and developed cloud-based distributed software solutions in Java and Node.js backed by NoSQL.I got my start with technology from an electronic diagramming book when I was in middle school. This experience eventually led to me teaching myself C and Linux. By the time I attended NCSU, I was already proficient with Java and immediately became a TA, teaching engineers Java basics and tutoring others in Fortran.Graduating in 2009 was definitely not ideal, but I was able to get my professional career started with Advanced Data & Networking Solutions. Here I put my networking skills to use and honed my understanding of real-world infrastructure.I made the transition to focus on software development in 2013 with ConvergeOne. At ConvergeOne, I began my progression through the software development career path, allowing me to bring my knowledge in infrastructure, software, and professional services together and grow as a developer, team member, and leader.

Senior Software ConsultantConvergeone Jun 2019 - Sep 2021Cary, North Carolina, United StatesI came to ConvergeOne to be part of the Advanced Services unit. ConvergeOne is the leading system integrator partner for Avaya and one of the leaders for Cisco and Genesys. The Advanced Services division of ConvergeOne focuses on IP development and professional services. While here as a Senior Software Consultant, I have applied my skills to create a GitOps style CI pipeline and restructured the delivery model around containers. As part of the Conversations product, I created a simple infrastructure that encapsulates the underlying NoSQL and AMQP messaging systems. This infrastructure has allowed our team to grow in a more Agile methodology, with designs distributed to coders who focus primarily on 3rd party integrations. -
Software ConsultantConvergeone Aug 2013 - Jun 2019When I initially started at ConvergeOne, I began re-engineering a Cloud Connector product for Avaya Call Centers. At the time, the per-user memory overhead was measured in GBs. I was able to reduce this down to 4GB for 300 users. I then moved on to apply this same logic to Cisco CUCM and Cisco Finesse, along with advising similar changes for the Genesys product line. As these products began growing in success, I helped build a series of tools to improve our development cycles. This process started with a load testing framework that had previously just been a series of scripts. I was able to redesign this as Java WebApp that would coordinate simulated loads on multiple hosts. I also significantly improved the resource requirements and provided a system for aggregating the results then calculating statistics. I also created a Go-based DDoS simulation tool along with an integration test framework. -
Network TechnicianAdvanced Data & Network Solutions Sep 2010 - Aug 2013ADNS is an IT MSP in the Western part of NC. While here, I became CCNA certified, Windows certified, and earned employee of the year. While my daily activities often involved managing generalized IT assistance, I researched and implemented multiple automation systems to improve the team's ability to push changes to machines remotely. This included some training material on GPO scripting for administrators, and the material is still used as a reference for their team. -
Teacher AssistantNorth Carolina State University Aug 2008 - Dec 2008NCSU offers a program for majors in Computer Science to become teacher assistants. Duties for this included providing a 30-minute training lecture on a focused assignment, personalized tutoring for a class of 25 students, and grading the assignments once completed. I was able to speed up the grading portion by writing a unit test that would facilitate grading the assignments in seconds rather than hours. I often stayed longer to help struggling students along, resulting in my class having the highest pass/fail average of all other courses that semester.
