Technical Manager/Ccu OperatorFreelance Apr 2022 - Mar 2024Christchurch, Canterbury, New ZealandTaking on some new responsibility as an occasional freelance broadcast technical manager for The Feed on TVNZ2 to help upskill myself. Building on years of watching and assisting the WhitebaitMedia technical team while on site in my other roles, it's been a smooth transition to understanding the complexities of the broadcast chain, and some new challenges as well. I've also been broadcast rigging for Brain Busters, and CCU operating for What Now. In 2024 I'm leading the design and build of a small studio record system for What Now and other productions.

Lighting Technician And DesignerWhitebaitmedia May 2015 - Mar 2024I was contracted through AC Lighting to provide lighting rigging, programming and operation for many of the children's productions produced at WhitebaitMedia's studios in Christchurch. Core productions included The 4:30 Show, The Adam and Eve Show, Fanimals, and currently include the live to air extravaganza that is What Now, in it's 42nd year in 2023, and Brain Busters, now closing out it's 4th season. In 2022, WhitebaitMedia launched two new shows, the reality Escape Room show, One Way Out, for which I was contracted as lighting designer and operator and also The Feed, the ultimate after school destination, brought to the world from a brand new "loft apartment" set which I had the pleasure of designing the lighting for!I also lead a project to redevelop the WhitebaitMedia Studio lighting control system to facilitate the wide uses the facility has now, including implementing building wide OSC control of the two independent Hog 4 systems (a Road Hog 4, and a Hog 4 PC system), moving the bulk of the control to an ArtNET node in the dimmer room, with data distribution to the two studios, and to a Resolume Media Server for Brain Busters. There is also OSC control integration from the bespoke Game Show Software for Brain Busters, which drives all the set interactions from gameplay. From installation to maintenance, programming to design, and regular set swings and re rigging in between, there's not much I didn’t do when it comes to lighting at Whitebait, and it's a real privilege to be a part of the whānau bringing fantastic content to tamariki across Aotearoa! -
Event Production TechnicianAc Lighting Jul 2011 - Jul 2023Christchurch, NzMy primary role had me in charge of the preparation, planning and installation of power and data systems for lighting and rigging on many large shows, including Electric Avenue Festival, Bay Dreams South Island, and a myriad of shows at indoor and outdoor venues in Christchurch, and beyond. I have a passion for system design including console networking using ARTNet, sACN, OSC and MAnet/Hognet, as well as power and DMX distribution design and loom making across numerous universes, trusses and event sizes. I am also a proficient Hog console programmer, using a variety of systems across theatre, live music and dance, as well as for broadcast television including live performances and games, while also endeavouring to become more competent in GrandMA 2 and 3 ecosystems. Throughout the year I could be found taking part in stage construction and rigging, including ground support structures, and installation of large scale temporary power (up to 400A three phase supplies) for expos and outdoor festivals including food vendors and popup restaurants. As part of our preferred supplier agreement with Venues Ōtautahi, I have also been a venue technician and lighting/sound operator at a variety of venues including the Christchurch Town Hall, where I was also lighting technician for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra for many shows since it's reopening in 2019. I also had involvement in ongoing health and safety policy development, and regular inspection and/or PAT testing of our wide lighting, rigging and cable inventory. I'd been responsible for fine tuning our Current RMS database and rental management system, ongoing stock take and am a capable operator of CAST WYSIWYG software for event design as well. When faced with issues or challenges on the job, quick and effective troubleshooting and on the fly fixes are a key part of my skills, stemming from an intense need to know how everything works, and a desire to provide the best outcome to the client every time.
