As the fitness and wellness graduate assistant I had the pleasure of dipping my toes into the higher education world, beyond just being a student. I was given the ability to supervise about 40+ undergraduate students, and run a community and student fitness center. I created semester long schedules for students I supervised, ensuring they had time for school and work. I coordinated group fitness classes for community members and students to explore their fitness goals and dreams. I organized and facilitated personal trainers to serve the community needs. During my time in this role I strived to be the best and make as much positive change as I possibly could. I was able to help right a proposal during my second year to secure funding for new and adaptable fitness equipment. Making sure our spaces match the vision of creating an environment for students to thrive.

During my Masters Degree at Central Michigan University, I was required to complete a practicum experience. I say "required" because this was something I was not exactly excited to complete because I still was not very sure what I wanted to do for a career. I brainstormed with my mentors and decided that I wanted to try more of an advanced form of fitness/working with student athletes with the strength and conditioning team at Central Michigan University. During this experience I was pleasantly surprised, I gained a tremendous amount of transferable skills that I can take in to all of my future roles. This experience was in the peak of the Covid- 19 pandemic. There was a lot of new rules and guidelines that needed to be followed surrounding safety and regulations for what was aloud and not when training the athletes. Under the supervision of all of the strength and conditioning staff, I developed numerous skills such as leading large groups of student/athletes, learning perception and attention to detail can command respect, and that there are no such thing as bad teams only bad leaders.
