Lifebox Healthcare is a HealthTech startup augmenting end to end care around hospital submissions.Lifebox Healthcare had a very small infrastructure and team budget. I designed and deployed a fully serverless architecture to support their small software development team, realising a cost of under $400/month for over 50 APIs and 3 environments and a development TCO an order of magnitude smaller than similar sized systems I've previously worked on.The system is built using AWS services including Appsync, Lambda, SNS, SES, SQS, DynamoDB, Step Functions, API Gateway, Cognito to name a few.The CI/CD pipeline and deployment system of record is fully automated and integrated with GitHub. This bespoke pipeline managed between 20 and 30 deployments to production a day and required close to zero maintenance.

Xinja is Australia's first neo-bank offering personal current accounts.I was tasked with building the application platform that was to underpin Xinja's mobile APIs.I designed and built out Kubernetes clusters and an automated Jenkins based deployment pipeline.

Kingfisher Digital owns household DIY brands including B&Q and Screwfix.I was tasked with building a shared application platform to underpin new API capabilities across their group companies, as well as advocating for a culture change to enable the wider organisation to take advantage of the new platform capabilities.Requirements included building a shared group Platform as a Service on top of AWS to run initially group wide and mobile APIs with a view towards total migration and the DevOps consulting that goes along with those changes.I presented a Kubernetes proposal to replace a Terraform only stack in order to speed up development, onboarding and deployment times. The result is that integration time for new components has decreased by over 90%, seeing integration stories sized for a month taking just 2 days in many cases.During this time I also managed and extended the Terraform based infrastructure in support of tactical development requirements.

I was tasked with building the application hosting platform underpinning the soon to be rapidly growing HMRC tax platform.Requirements included rapid on-boarding of both new developers and new applications and both defining and working within tight security constraints.I helped HMRC grow the platform from supporting 20 developers and 5 applications to over 600 developers regularly deploying over 300 applications and handling millions of UK tax transactions in under 2 years.

Bossa Studios made one of the first multiplayer games on Facebook and I was tasked with supporting the running of it and future games.Requirements included cost savings and reliability improvements over the current solution and expansion of the platform to accommodate further tiles.I designed, built and maintained a Docker based platform, a Cassandra database backbend and a continuous delivery pipeline to take developers code from Bitbucket and deploy it out through our pipeline. At it's peak it was handling several thousand HTTP requests per second and multiple terabytes of data and had more then halved costs of the previous lower traffic solution.

I helped design and build multi-gigabit wire-speed captive portals to enable an advertising company's interstitial pages.Requirements I worked on included deploying and managing multiple POPs in ISP datacenters, high speed TCP packet interception and manipulation to implement HTTP redirects, and ad hoc UDP tunnels to ship packets between datacentres.

Worked closely with an operations team based in Melbourne, Australia to ensure website performance and uptime were kept to a maximum.Requirements included often ad hoc work to support the day to day running of the website and the office.

I managed over 600 remote dial-up modem sites for **UCS Software**, a South African retail provider.Requirements included regular application patching, OS package upgrades, troubleshooting both retail applications and operating systems, all over unreliable modem links, as well as centralising remote site data for reporting.I designed and built a virtual hosting solution on the then cutting edge linux-vserver kernel patches in order to cut hosting costs in half and executed, sometimes daily, application and operating system package updates, including a major version RedHat upgrade, in over 600 remote dial-up stores over often less then 56k connection speeds.
