I enjoyed reading from these places but also noticed books that were thrown on the streets. I began collecting. That began my book collection hobby. I thought it would fizzle away when I left DC to go and stay in Massachusetts. It didn't and while in MA, I got a better idea of shipping the books to Nairobi, Kenya from where they found their way to people who use them. I recall the day in Worcester, MA that hooked me into book collection. As I was riding my bicycle along Pleasant Hill Street that memorable summer with many people out on the streets, I noticed piles of books left on the roadside. I couldn't help but stop and pick up the books I knew would be useful in Africa. A discarded book in USA is a highly regarded treasure in Africa. I have sent 800,000 text books, 200,000 pens and pencils to many African countries since 2012. Show less
