Against this background rooted in organizing, with a strong understanding of health and development trends and their application to transform communities into livable societies, Tom walks the line intersecting equity, rights, dignity-affirmation, health and development promotion, works with and in a diverse range of cultural-settings.Outside work, this griot-poet, entertains through the spoken or written word, engages communities with stories curried with Afro-Aesopian morals. Talk of house chores, gardens, Tom does tricks in the kitchen, cleans the yard, rears birds, has bird feeding troughs all over the place, scared of dogs, listens to the radio, mostly current affairs, is a debater, a movie-aficionado, enjoys long country-walks, and simply adores reggae and socca music in all genres. Tom dreams of travelling the whole world.

I enjoyed reading from these places but also noticed books that were thrown on the streets. I began collecting. That began my book collection hobby. I thought it would fizzle away when I left DC to go and stay in Massachusetts. It didn't and while in MA, I got a better idea of shipping the books to Nairobi, Kenya from where they found their way to people who use them. I recall the day in Worcester, MA that hooked me into book collection. As I was riding my bicycle along Pleasant Hill Street that memorable summer with many people out on the streets, I noticed piles of books left on the roadside. I couldn't help but stop and pick up the books I knew would be useful in Africa. A discarded book in USA is a highly regarded treasure in Africa. I have sent 800,000 text books, 200,000 pens and pencils to many African countries since 2012. Show less
