The International Code Council (ICC) is the leading global source of model codes and standards and building safety solutions that include product evaluation, accreditation, technology, training, and certification. The Code Council's codes, standards, and solutions are used to ensure safe, affordable, and sustainable communities and buildings worldwide. The International Code Council uses the acronym PMG to refer to its plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, swimming pool & spa, and private sewage disposal codes. The PMG codes are a vital part of a complete building safety system. When adopted as a family of codes, alongside the other I-Codes, they provide a consistent system of regulations that designers, contractors, builders, and regulators can rely on around the world.As the Director of PMG Global, my focus is on: • Identifying emerging and innovative technologies, designs and installation practices and opportunities for the development of global solutions.• Developing strategic partnerships and building relationships with global stakeholders across code and standard developing organizations, academia and industry. • Initiating the development of solutions such as new international standards and the adoption of existing solutions. • Assisting ICC Oceania across Australia, New Zealand and the Indo-Pacific Region.• Supporting the ICC Family of Solutions globally.

The Chair of Standards Australia’s WS-014 committee and the Project Manager form the leadership team that guides the committee through the process of developing the joint Australian and New Zealand standards, AS/NZS 3500 Plumbing and drainage and associated Handbooks. Standards are produced by cooperative effort and round-table discussions. During committee meetings, the chair plays a key role in ensuring that the standards developed represent the views of all concerned, to the maximum extent possible.One of the key functions as the Chair is the management of the committee’s work program to ensure that target dates are met, the agreed deliverables are achieved and to ensure that the standardisation process is strictly adhered to.

The Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act 2004 is the principle law for the technical licensing and regulation of construction professionals and trades in the ACT.The regulation of the construction industry is the responsibility of the Construction Occupations Registrar (Registrar) within Access Canberra. Access Canberra’s role is to shape the delivery of services around businesses, community groups and individuals seeking to engage with the ACT Government to enable a ‘no wrong door’ approach. Access Canberra aims to set a new benchmark for integrated and seamless service; with staff working together, and with the community, to support businesses to flourish while still providing the appropriate level of community protection. In accordance with section 114 of the Act, the Registrar is required to establish an advisory board for a construction occupation. This board is the advisory board established for the construction occupation of Plumbing.

The role of Director within NCC Management, Standards and WaterMark team is at a senior level in the organisation. The position involves leading and managing the team responsible for the development of the Plumbing Code of Australia, along with ensuring that the technical and operational responsibilities are delivered to meet the expectations of the ABCB’s many government, industry and society stakeholders.

Responsibilities included:• High level input and authoritative advice to the CEO in relation to Board requirements and objectives.• High level input to the technical development and maintenance of the Plumbing Code of Australia (PCA), the WaterMark Certification Scheme and related Australian Standards.• Co-ordinate overall work programs in terms of ABCB’s work programs and priorities.• Research and analysis and prepare technical reports of a complex nature.• Development and maintenance of a momentum for regulatory reform.• Liaison and negotiation with State and Territory administrations, relevant Committees, in particular ABCB and Australian Standards Committees, and co-ordinate overall work programs in terms of ABCB work programs and priorities.• Representation of the Australian Building Codes Board at various committees, conferences, and other functions.• High level input to the development and coordination of new WaterMark Technical Specifications.• Liaison and negotiation with State and Territory administrations, The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JAZ-ANZ), National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA), Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), WaterMark Technical Advisory Committee (WMTAC) and other relevant committees and stakeholders.• Responsible for the development and delivery of education and awareness campaigns for both the PCA and WaterMark Certification Scheme.• Assist in the co-ordination of ABCB work programs and priorities.

The National Construction Code (NCC) Management and Product Certification team has primary responsibility for the development and management of National Construction Code content, being the Building and Plumbing Codes of Australia. It also has primary responsibility for technical input into the development and maintenance of referenced building and plumbing standards, as well as the administration of the CodeMark and WaterMark product certification schemes.This senior level position within the ABCB involves contributing to the broad management responsibilities of the organisation along with ensuring that the technical and operational responsibilities are delivered to meet the expectations of the ABCB’s many government, industry and society stakeholders.The primary duties of the position are to provide high-level technical input and advice for the administration of the ABCB’s WaterMark certification scheme, and the delivery of associated projects in accordance with the ABCB’s work program.Responsibilities include:• Management of the WaterMark team responsible for the day to day administration, operation and ongoing development of the ABCB mandatory WaterMark Certification Scheme (WMCS) for plumbing and drainage products, including the continued transition to the improved WMCS as per the transition strategy, including an on-line product database, cost recovery framework and developing strategies and tools for risk management, stakeholder engagement, communication, education and awareness• Management of projects in accordance with the ABCB’s work program including exploring the Feasibility of Point of Sale Controls for the WMCS, and commencing a Review of all WMCS Product Specifications, and provide high level strategic, policy and technical advice on the WMCS and related matters.
