As the first person in this role for the largest college at K-State, I helped the college find it's voice, build a message and develop the systems to carry it out. It was rewarding to bring the identity and purpose of the college into focus, launch new events and incorporate our message into existing ones, and completely recreate everything from our website to printed pieces.To help an organization cast a vision, focus its message and communicate its identity in a strategic, powerful and inspirational way is fun. My days were never the same and was able to wear many hats, including social media coordinator, event planner, magazine editor, strategic thinker, creative director, writer, editor, leader, liaison and encourager. I truly enjoyed being able to go to the 40,000-foot level to help shape the big picture and then being able carry out the hands-on work of making the vision become reality.

I co-taught a course with Dr. Justin Kastner titled Scholarship in a Busy Age, which offered invaluable principles and practices that helped students (a) think skillfully, (b) engage meaningfully, and (c) perform joyfully in the midst of the pressures that will likely continue to characterize the twenty-first century.

My job had two primary roles: Adviser & Recruiter/Promoter.I served as a guide, helping more than 300 students lay out and navigate a rewarding path toward graduation, equipping them with valuable experience, both in and out of the classroom, to put them in the best position possible to secure a fulfilling career.I also served as the primary promoter of the school, which included crafting the school's vision, developing the communication tools needed to carry the message and talking with students considering their next step in life. Those in the school knew its strengths. We just needed to focus our message and develop the vehicles to deliver it to those on the outside who were looking in. I am proud to have helped make that happen.
