Tom Patterson is the Managing Director for Emerging Technology Security at Accenture, the global leader in security services for the world’s most important organizations, where he is the global lead for Quantum Security and Space Security, and an active contributor to AI and Metaverse Security. Tom leverages emerging technologies-- assisting governments, companies and organizations seeking to defend and prosper amid the disruption and opportunity this decade is bringing in the technology we use to compute, communicate, and decision.Tom was a founding Senior Fellow at Auburn University’s Center for Homeland Security for five years, a founding CEO, Chief Trust Officer, CISO, Chief Strategist, big four Partner, board member, and run multi-hundred-million-dollar security business units in both products and services. Tom also supported the White House's NSTAC as the co-chair of their Cyber Moonshot working group which created a whole-of-nation plan to make the Internet safe and secure for critical infrastructure, and contributed to a range of Presidential reports including zero trust, IT/OT security, resilience, and global standards. Having worked with leadership teams to defend many of the world’s critical enterprises, Tom has helped protect national borders, trillions of dollars of financial transactions per day, energy delivery to millions, global air transit, and healthcare provisioning to entire populations. Tom helped secure projects as diverse as the launches of a space shuttle and aircraft carrier, protected oil rigs, banks and hospitals from terrorists, organized criminals, and foreign intelligence services, as well as protected high-profile programs at the U.N. A lifetime Trust awardee, Tom works with executives and boards, lectures on security at the Wharton School and Cal Poly, and regularly appears as a guest security analyst for media including CNBC, FOX, NBC, and the Wall Street Journal. Throughout his career Tom has served as a CSO (MCC), big-four partner (Deloitte), chief eCommerce strategist (IBM), founder of a tech startup backed by the Carlyle Group, and provided governance on three public company boards. Tom continues to support the White House, Congress, Federal law enforcement, and intelligence and counter-intelligence communities with insights and action when called upon, and speak at events ranging from World Economic Forum, Davos Cyber Futures, Financial Times, TedX, SIFMA(financial), HIMMS(healthcare), and MIT Sloan.
