As a contributor to the Executive Report, a quarterly publication for external customers, I had the opportunity to highlight success stories within Microsoft IT. I also provided rewriting and editing for other departments within Microsoft IT.

I played a key role in developing NOW websites in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Japan, Australia, and the U.K. I aided in rollout strategy, communicated with global staff, distributed content for repurposing, and filed regular reports with other markets. I worked extensively with Microsoft's Bedrock CMS to process content, the MSN Video tool to add Web videos to articles, and the Demand Dashboard plus a variety of external sites to identify trending topics. I used Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint, and Lync on a daily basis to edit copy, write headlines, and utilize SEO best practices, including determining optimal keywords and trending topic terms, to prepare content for the U.S. site. I created content, including articles and photo galleries, for the U.S. site.

I served as an arts and features writer, and a content editor/copy editor/wire editor, for arts, outdoors, features, night news desk, commentary, and business. As a one-person, self-supervised copy desk, I produced seven features and three arts sections per week. I collaborated with other editors, writers, designers, and artists in guiding copy and graphics from conceptualization to publishing. I played an instrumental role in the implementation of the InCopy and InDesign front-end system, operating outside of the IT department to become a de facto trainer for colleagues. I wrote well-received profiles of musicians from indie rock to blues to country, as well as feature stories on festivals and topics related to outdoor recreation.

I served as co-chairman of Chicago Newspaper Guild and assisted in devising strategy for obtaining a fair employment contract with the company, as well as aiding employees in labor-related disputes and disciplinary matters.
