My passion for senior advocacy and service began in 1998. As a wife and mother of five, I have dedicated much of my life to the service of people and community service.My knowledge of policy and procedure for the care of seniors developed during my time as a Director of Social Services / Activities.In 2006, South Suburban Senior Socialites, Inc., was born. A non profit organization established to improve the well being of active seniors by providing education, programs, services and resources. This marked the beginning of my commitment to advocate for and serve the senior community.My marching orders were to, “Feed the Seniors” and the initial focus was a monthly Senior Breakfast Club and collaboration with various organizations, park districts and senior centers.The goal was to educate active seniors, family caregivers, professionals and providers about the importance of healthy aging and mental wellness in the senior community. The focus was to help them in becoming proactive in their healthcare choices.In 2008 I created STARS (Seniors Talking About Real Situations), a therape​utic group program to address mental wellness and the transition from independent to structured living. This commitment to service has grown into a multi-faceted business, helping hundreds of seniors to understand the importance of mental wellness as it relates to having a better quality of life.Now operating as 4S Wellness Services, we continue to provide mental health counseling, wellness education, resources, support services, community events and activities to the senior population. The STARS program offers services in Illinois, Indiana and Nevada. while continuing effective collaborations with community providers for support services.Our success is largely based on my belief that in the Business of Service, collaboration is essential to the success of providing quality care.Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. ~World Health Organization, 1948
