In keeping with my ongoing commitment to improving the lives of children, I took on management of a project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I directed a team of health experts on four continents charged with identifying causes and developing evidence-based solutions to reduce the incidence of preterm births and stillbirths. In my leadership capacity, I served as key liaison for external and internal stakeholders at Seattle Children’s Hospital, the Foundation, and renowned Research Institute. I also managed the communications budget, led web redesign, and made effective process improvements.Selected accomplishments included:- Delivered, ahead of schedule, a high-quality landscape review on the discovery, development, and delivery of interventions.- Developed short- and long-term strategic plans that resulted in a 300% increase in R&D funding.- Served on the advisory council for global alliance and played a significant role in planning a major global conference of 200 invitation-only maternal and newborn health leaders.- Established and promoted alliances with the Gates Foundation, March of Dimes, PATH, Save the Children, UNICEF, United Nations, and World Health Organization.- Played a key role in securing millions of dollars in funding through impactful collateral and presentations that enhanced the visibility for core issues.- Co-authored and edited a 250-page report on preterm birth and stillbirth (the burden, causes, solutions, and a call to action), published in a peer-reviewed journal.- Recognized as “Top Performer” (highest performance rating given at Seattle Children’s) and named as role model for accountability, respect, and teamwork.

Selected projects included:* Anne Arundel Medical Center- Developed strategic communications for a new hospital center.* HIV/AIDS Orphans International- Provided strategic advocacy and fundraising guidance for children whose parents died of HIV/AIDS in Kenya, helping raise funds for a new school/home with water, electricity, and healthcare access.* Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future, MD Pesticide Network Partnership- Directed a program that united 75 diverse stakeholders and resulted in a policy, consumer, and corporate strategy to reduce the impact of toxins in a five-state watershed region.- Created training tools for healthcare practitioners and community resources.* Johns Hopkins Center for Civil Society Studies- Researched and analyzed the scope, structure, financing, and impact of the global nonprofit sector in 22 countries.- Contributed to a book on this sector as a graduate assistant.* Maryland Association of Nonprofit Organizations- Co-authored and published a quantitative and qualitative impact evaluation for an ethics and accountability program.

As project lead with this global nonprofit, I drove to completion a National Geographic partnership project to create an online conservation resource for 800 global ecoregions. In producing this resource, I streamlined processes and collaborated with an international team of scientists.

I gained valuable hands-on business and marketing experience in directing a large number of projects. I assembled top-performing project teams, including hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising 35 employees.
