An experienced practitioner helping organisations to improve risk management, corporate governance and internal control.Example Assignments(i) Upgrading risk management capability across an International Insurance CompanyLed the project team sponsored by the CEO to improve risk management capability in response to regulatory and board pressure. This involved designing and implementing revised risk organisation structures, assessing risk culture and implementing more effective processes for identifying, evaluating, managing and reporting risk. Significant improvement was acknowledged by the Board and externally recognised by rating agencies and the main regulator. (ii) Preparing an International Insurance Company for Solvency IILed the Pillar 2 workstream (focused on improved risk management and governance) before becoming the internal lead on the Group PMO. This involved applying a detailed understanding of Solvency II requirements, design and rollout of a comprehensive Programme Requirements Document to all areas of the programme and close coordination of project teams in individual geographical markets ensuring they delivered these requirements efficiently. I managed procurement relationships with external suppliers and financial control within a £100m+ programme.(iii) Implementing a strengthened corporate governance framework for an International Insurance Company Led the work to design and rollout a comprehensive set of risk management and internal control policies with supporting guidance. This work entailed developing a comprehensive risk model and then working with functional specialists (Finance, IT, HR, Procurement and Audit) ensuring appropriate minimum standards for managing risk and internal control were set and continue to be met. This delivered a robust cost-effective and commercially pragmatic system of internal control and was sponsored and endorsed by Executive and Board management.
