Vehicle Concepts and Geometry Integration Dimensional Engineering Styling/Technical convergence

VOLVO/GEELY Advanced Engineering centreResponsibilities:Definition and development of vehicle set up and tactics.Management of architecture modular commonality strategy, interfaces, and Geometric bandwidths. Responsible for defining complete vehicle prerequisites and boundary conditions for system engineering.Driving and solving complex geometric integration issues.Delivery of applicable engineering criteria within the styling techical convergence process.Development of the concept and package team global core competence.(45 personnel)Identifying and executing processes and strategies to improve team efficiency. (CMA arch, sedan, hatch, SUV, sport SUV technical framing and styling convergence for Lync & Co variants)

Managing complete vehicle package integration and styling/technical convergence. Ensuring the applicable requirements are balanced and executed.Running of Vehicle Geometric Integration and Styling Technical Convergence meetings .Supporting and advising the product engineering and vehicle integration teams, including development partners, in order to achieve robust solutions.Conducting engineering feasibility and packaging studies ,from initial product framing and through all subsequent development phases, Responsible for the timing, deliverables and mentoring of any resources supporting the project within the geometric integration and studio engineering group (Qoros 3 sedan and hatchback, Qoros 5 SUV)

Working within the advanced engineering group responsible for Vehicle Architecture and Platform technical preparation (Phoenix). Scope primarily involved the definition and feasibility confirmation of Architecture dimensional configurations and functional flexibility across vehicle segments and variant requirements , managing applicable VTS paragraphs and engineering support for show car development (Phoenix).

Technical support for studio interior development including Geometric Integration

Responsible for engineering team deliverable's through initial one month technical assessment phase and subsequent development loop. Tasks included running of package meetings, DMU , coordinating solutions for vehicle related issues and health check of Vehicle Technical Specification and Product Profile. (Dongfeng)

Conducting investigations and generating proposals to solve packaging related issues on a future SAAB vehicle variant. (9-5 wagon)

Advanced studio engineering manager:Responsible for workload, timing & deliverables of the 4 man studio engineering team. Also represented studio engineering within an advanced engineering work group tasked with defining ‘next generation’ platform properties ensuring correct balancing between engineering technical solutions and design proportion/key enablers.(Delta 2)Advanced Studio Engineer:Advanced studio engineering support for future platform proportion and feasibility, Liason with advanced engineering departments, generation and presentation of relevant information. Show car package and concept development including liason with tier one suppliers - Opel Flextreme (reg patents, chairman’s honours) SAAB 9.1/9X BIO HYBRID (Reg. patents)Studio Engineer: Tech support on bubble up phase of new platform (Epsilon 2) and Opel product.Studio and Vehicle Integration Technical support for interior development representing SAAB within the GME design centre.

Lead Engineer - Interior (Malaysia)Responsibilities for the 10 man interior trim team included organising of working schedules, maintenance of the applicable Bill of Materials, providing / reviewing design direction and concept solutions, liaison with vendors and attending relevant product and cross functional related meetings.Components / systems included: Seat (three rows), Doors, Tailgate, Roof, Luggage comp, Floor and Side trims and Integration of all safety related equipment. (Proton MSX dev to pre prod status .Later shown as Lotus APX concept).Team leader for initial concept studies for a new vehicle variant including technical input to styling.Liaison / Concept Engineer - (Lotus, Hethel, UK)Working within the concept phase of a new vehicle variant being developed on a new adaptable platform, specifically with regard to cockpit, interior and related interfaces. Activities included conducting packaging studies and delivery of criteria to styling, providing and reviewing design direction with the interior development team, status reports to Lotus Engineering Malaysia and running of Interior geometric Integration meetings.Upon completion of this phase moved with project to Lotus Engineering Malaysia.

Involved in preliminary concept and packaging studies in the development a new platform, specifically cockpit and interior. Work included basic architectural definition for driver and controls, including bandwidth geometry for component and interface commonality within family variants.After relocation continued platform development in a joint venture with Alfa Romeo working within the cockpit engineering / integration team, also including supporting advanced design with criteria definition. (Premium platform, Alfa159)

Liaison Engineer: SAAB, SwedenWorking with interior concept and packaging issues on a new vehicle variant. Studies included rear seat folding concepts, roof rail airbag and rear headlining/luggage concepts.Lead Engineer Interior: UKSAAB 9-3 Cabriolet. Responsible for interior concept development team, delivery of engineering constraints to advanced design, Gate status reports and running of cockpit integration meetings through to feasibility layout freeze, and supplier handover.Advanced Engineering: UK/SwedenSAAB 9-3 project. Initially working in UK defining driver and controls architecture on new GM shared platform (Epsilon 1)Thereafter, working as resident engineer at Saab in Sweden supporting cockpit commonality at platform level and advanced design/packaging in the development of the new SAAB instrument panel and console. (Unigraphics trained)

S60 / V70 project .Packaging and advanced engineering for Instrument panel. Responsibilities also included styling support of clay development through to single theme selection, liaison with UK engineering supplier and Swedish based cockpit module vendor through to final theme sign off and handover

Interior Packaging Engineer:SAAB 9-5 project. Packaging and feasibility for instrument panel climate ducts including the injection moulded vibration welded front windscreen defroster Assy. Co-responsible for engineering of the instrument panel carrier/foam/foil assembly through to feasibility layout freeze and supplier handoverAfter the conclusion of the above I was Invited to join vehicle integration department as packaging engineer responsible for the Instrument panel/cockpit zone. Work included liaison with both styling and manufacturing engineering Interior Engineer:On request from OEM accompanied the replacement Saab 900 project from Abtech to SAAB in Sweden, Investigating and solving assembly and manufacturing problems on various instrument panel and centre console trim components through the phase into series production.

Saab 900 replacement project:Instrument Panel. Engineering of Glove box, passenger lower panel area, instrument plate and harness packaging. Responsible for 3D wire frame, surface models and detail drawings. Seconded to work on various parts of the Front and Rear End Chassis members for a Russian truck. Work included feasibility, manual layouts, and detail drawings. Electrical and body ornamentation department:Work included development of lamps, body side mouldings, mud flaps and bumpers for the SAAB 9000 CS model range. Involved in development through to final production released drawings.

Member of a team developing various interior trim components including: Fiat front door panels and IP, Ford seatback finishers, Ford Aerostar rear quarter trim panel, C-pillar finisher, and VW front door grab handles. Work included generation of component concept layouts, detailing and liaison with manufacturing in Sontra, Germany.

85 - 86 Detail design Engineer Rover 800 Project, working on Door Closures, Side Frame feasibility and layout engineering. (CADDS 4 trained)84 - 85 Junior Engineer IBM CATIA, Body in White Closures Group on the LM10 (Maestro) component engineering. 79 - 83 4 years Technician Apprenticeship covering all aspects of vehicle engineering, manufacture and assembly.
