Most recently led some 150+ multi-disciplined staff across Network Operations for Main Roads Western Australia as the Executive Director, transforming business capability to become a World Class operational entity, leading the Government response to congestion and the efficient movement of people and goods. Main Roads Operational readiness committee Chair and lead for Smart Freeways (Kwinana and Mitchell), responsible for the efficient operation of the State's SCATS traffic signals incorporating modal priority and conceptualising and bringing to life all aspects of the State-of-the-Art Road Network Operations Centre (RNOC) business model. Previously TfL's Surface Transport's Head of Road Network Performance and Senior Responsible Officer for 2012 Olympic Games Operational readiness. Responsibilities included performance outcomes for the Olympic Route Network, leading a multi-disciplined team across strategy, delivery, infrastructure, change management and operations, including Control Centre Gold Command.Rising rapidly through the ranks since joining the Urban Traffic Control (UTC) department in 1982 to lead a 100+ team with overall responsibility for pan London strategic route outcomes which included the operation of 6000 sets of traffic signals. This resulted in turning around a long-term deterioration in journey time reliability, pan London.Led on development of real time control strategy implementation for the City of London “ring of steel”, World (Trafalger) Square, Congestion charging and its Western extension and subsequent removal.Former TfL lead of the SCOOT steering group and driving force behind SCOOT MMX, SCOOT JTR GOLD (for 2012 Games outcomes), Pedestrian and Bicycle SCOOT.Senior Responsible Officer for the delivery of many of the Mayor's Smoothing Traffic flow initiatives including the development of the business cases to secure funding for an additional 1000 SCOOT sites, a 1000 sites per year traffic signal timing review programme, Pedestrian Countdown at Traffic Signals and bus priority.A uniquely experienced and innovative thinker based on 47 years' experience in traffic control, as a high performing practitioner and Executive, having a special interest in challenging existing wisdom in a way that can deliver multi modal balanced transport outcomes.Specialties include: Managing change, Measurable Network performance improvement outcomes, Senior command of Real Time Operational Control environments for world City Surface Road Networks, utilising ITS through advanced Traffic Management and Control Centre strategic direction.
