In my current role I am accountable for the delivery of infrastructure strategy across the Westpac Group. Leading a small team of Westpac and partner resources we engage with Westpac’s line-of-business and technology teams to understand pain points, risks, market opportunities and objectives which then form the basis of our strategies and planning. This role the most visible point of infrastructure in the CTO team and plays a significant role in the development, governance and execution of our most important infrastructure programs. Responsibilities and significant achievements :-- Author of the Westpac Cloud Strategy supporting our organisational objectives to deliver highly standardised, fully automated, sustainable and efficient cloud platforms and services which bring ‘value sooner’.- CIO/CTO, Board Level and regulatory endorsement of the Cloud Strategy, Workload Placement Framework and Cloud Service selection criteria.- Development, design, governance and technical leadership of our infrastructure transformation program, delivering on our Cloud Strategy and a consolidated, agile workplace environment.- Drive and endorse complex service design across a large, multi-vendor team of more than 100 people including dozens of architects and solution designers.- Technical thought leadership and mentor to several operational leaders.- Work collaboratively with our infrastructure partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities, remove roadblocks and help improve the cost, pace and quality of delivery.- Technical leadership across various sourcing programs, most recently focused on Telecommunications, delivering to more than 1500 sites, many thousands of ATM’s, internet services and mobile EFTPOS solutions.- Broad engagement of C-Level Executives across the Westpac Group.- Financial analysis, business case development and high-level program planning to support the approval and funding of critical programs of work.

The Chief Engineer role was created by Westpac to bring responsibility for infrastructure architecture and design back in-house. My team of 12 Westpac and partner resources created and executed the Westpac infrastructure roadmap for the Midrange Hosting and Storage domains.Responsibilities and achievements in this current role included :-- Infrastructure Architecture, standards, policy, governance and product selection.- Contract negotiation - Midrange Hosting and Storage Tower Lead.- Technical leadership, oversight and technology governance across major programs.- Development and management of a team of highly skilled architects and engineers.- Development of Storage Strategy. Subsequent migration to EMC enterprise storage.- Deployment of the Westpac ‘Private Cloud’ using Cisco UCS and BMC Atrium/BladeLogic tools.- Chief Architect of the ‘Integrated Migration & Transformation Program’, the program of work delivering migration to our new datacenter, migration to a new perimeter security network and migration of several thousand servers to a private cloud.- Identification, analysis and rectification of problematic, costly and/or end-of-life application and infrastructure resulting in initiatives to migrate a large Oracle application off poorly supported legacy infrastructure to a fully managed linux based platform (Exadata/Exalogic), creation of a Java on Demand (JOD) environment based on virtual linux and supported by a service catalogue along with high-level guidance on costs and process to exit all Mainframe based java hosting services.- Creation of an infrastructure service that allows simple migration from legacy environment to strategic, supported environments with realising savings of $10M pa.- Lead Architect, Westpac/St George Infrastructure integration.
