Over three decades I've developed strong communications skills used in very different settings. Today, I'm a regular on-screen contributor on TV documentaries; an award shortlisted published author; an executive producer developing original TV and online content; and working in strategic communications for government and private sector clients.I have four books due for publication in 2024 and 2025 with two publishing houses covering very popular topics. In recent years, I've been published by Aurum Press, Saqi Books, and Bertelsmann. My books have been reviewed on global media channels and in national newspapers. Two of my books have been co-authored biographies.Together with Nigel Hetherington, founder of the casting agency Past Preservers, we have set up Fabula TV, a creative hub developing documentary concepts for TV networks, production companies, and distributors. We originate ideas, script them, source talent, and build teams for success. Our network of partners extends from Los Angeles and New York to the Middle East and India. My career over three decades has encompassed print, TV, and online journalism. I'm an ex-BBC news producer and Sky News reporter. And I've been part of the launch team in several media start-ups. I've run newsrooms managing teams of journalists. After leaving full-time journalism, I worked in corporate public relations and investor relations. Then spent over ten years immersed in strategic communications for government clients devising and implementing programs in the UK, Europe, United States, Balkans, central Asia, and Africa.

P/Cve Consultant To Uk GovernmentBreakthrough Media Jul 2013 - Apr 2019London, United KingdomThrough Breakthrough Media, I was part of a groundbreaking partnership between government, the private sector and civil society to develop strategic communications programs around countering the threat of terrorism and violent extremism in the 2010s. Primarily, this was the threat posed by ISIS and its recruitment of young people in the UK getting them to travel illegally to Iraq and Syria. Later, the challenge posed by the extreme Right became increasingly important. My role was to work with teams of civil servants, private sector consultants and civil society partners to develop communications strategies to intervene between online and offline terrorist recruitment activity and the individuals at risk of being radicalised. My role at the outset was to identity civil society partners and other actors we could trust to safeguard young people and build resilience in communities. This involved working on the ground in challenging areas as well as having a deep understanding of the ideologies and mindsets of all those involved.During this time, I co-authored a book on non-violent Islamist extremism in the UK titled 'The Battle for British Islam'.Most of this activity with Breakthrough came under a UK Home Office contract under the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism which has since been rebranded as Homeland Security. -
Head Of NetworksThe Network Hub Nov 2017 - Mar 2019London, United KingdomAn innovative program that took the UK's Prevent counter-terrorism model into the European Union. Head Of Content At Cantos/BrunswickBrunswick Group Jan 2001 - Jun 2011Back in 2001, Cantos (part of Brunswick PR) was a mould breaking proposition - helping large corporates, government and other organisations relay their messaging on camera direct to the desktop. I led a group of producers and consultants in developing the filming and online operation. As social media channels came to the fore in the mid-2000s, I worked with HM Treasury and the then Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Alistair Darling to create a YouTube channel shining a light on the everyday workings at Number 11. I also developed bite-sized TV programmes, mainly around business topics, and sometimes in conjunction with editorial titles like the Wall Street Journal and the Investors Chronicle (where I had previously been a journalist).Increasingly, I was involved in pioneering video/digital thought leadership programs - using online to interact with target audiences through discussions on key topics. This included creating content for Philips around global health. For nearly ten years, I worked closely with The Economist Intelligence Unit on its video content co-presenting a monthly online programme called "Global Forecast". -
