In the early 1990s, Tony originally worked at Motorola, as a Research engineer and Research Project Manager in Motorola's European Research Laboratory. Having earned the accolade of a Distinguished Inventor within Motorola, as an inventor of 20 individual granted inventions, and developed a keen interest in patenting inventions, Tony transferred to Motorola's Intellectual Property Department and subsequently qualified as a European Patent Attorney. Latterly Tony's role within Motorola was as European Patent Portfolio Manager for Motorola's communications-related technologies, strategically creating and managing their substantial patent portfolio in key technology areas, implementing and refining IP support programmes, and proactively developing significant licensing opportunities.Tony established Optimus Patents as a sole practitioner, in early 2002 and Optimus Patents was incorporated in 2006. The reputation of Optimus’ exceptional-quality patent work and exemplary, bespoke client service spread amongst many multinational companies and the Firm has expanded accordingly. Tony has written a number of articles and given presentations at International Conferences and Webinars on the subject of Patent Portfolio Management and Patent Law developments in Europe.Tony still performs original patent drafting of 20-30 new complex technology cases per year, continues to prosecute a large number of key cases in various jurisdictions, particularly at the EPO and USPTO, handles EP Oppositions and Examination Division Appeals for Optimus’ larger clients.
