The research was conducted working with X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy and the data collection and interpretation of cartilaginous tissue sections, measuring the concentration of its moving elements at sub-micron spatial resolutions. The software program, MAPS, was used to analyze the data, reconstruct images, and select regions of interest (ROI) for further analysis to compare concentrations of elements, simultaneously mapping 10+ elements for optimal data collection. Conclusions were further obtained by analyzing various fluorescent spectrums on the accumulation of the elements Co and Cr. -Learned valuable knowledge on the ability to compile large quantities of complex data and use proper-critical analysis and problem solving skills to interpret and process the data efficiently and accurately. -Presented research at Argonne’s symposium, drawing in a crowd of 300+ people ranging from college professors, to students in grade school, high school, undergraduate and graduate school, to post-doctoral candidates and a variety of Argonne’s own employees. -Presented research at the “Monday Morning Coffee Talk Presentation”, giving a 30-minute-long presentation to the employees of the X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy (XFM) division sector, including faculty from DePaul University.
