Manager Of Firmware
CurrentCurrently developing firmware for the hydrogen electrolyzer stack and building an embedded software team. We've got a lot of exciting work ahead and are always on the lookout for talented engineers. Feel free to reach out if you are interested joining us!
Staff Software Engineer
Brought up the firmware platform for in-house electrolyzer controls.
Manager Of Supercharger Firmware
Managed the Supercharger Firmware team at Tesla. We designed, developed, and tested the software that runs the Superchargers and various charging adapters (GB DC adapter, CHAdeMO adapter, and Mobile Connector). The Gen2 Supercharger supported charge rates of up to 150kW per vehicle and used a combination of liquid and air cooled components to strike a balance between simplicity and performance. For the V2 platform we owned the entire system, including real-time control of the power electronics, logging & telemetry for remote diagnostics, firmware updates, and all of the various vehicle interfaces (Tesla, CCS, GB DC, etc depending on region). The Gen3 supercharger supported charging vehicles at rates of up to 250kW per vehicle, and used liquid cooling for both the power converters and the charging cables. The project was a collaboration with other teams in the energy organization and shares power stages and telemetry systems with other stationary grid storage products. As in V2, we owned the region-specific vehicle interfaces and all of the associated charging protocols (Tesla, GB, and CCS).
Staff Software Engineer, Off-Board Charging
Lead firmware engineer for the Gen2 Supercharger project (a high speed DC charging system capable of 150kW power output which enabled customers to recharge about half of their battery in as little as 20 minutes). We worked closely with the integration/validation teams to develop new features as a breakneck pace while maintaining a high quality codebase over time.My job duties consisted of software development in C / python, systems engineering, and project management. The pace was fast and demanding, but I was lucky enough to work with with an extremely talented team which taught me a lot about what it takes to develop firmware quickly and efficiently while supporting large scale software deployments in the field.
Senior Firmware Engineer, Charging Systems
Started at Tesla as one of four firmware engineers on the charging team, supporting various on-board and off-board charging projects, primarily focusing on high speed DC charging.Developed the firmware for the CHAdeMO adapter (wrote about 95% of the code). I then participated in extensive in field testing to ensure full compatibility with many different makes/models of charging stations. Also worked directly with charger manufacturers in Japan to solve a number of interface issues and ensure a reliable charging experience for the Model S/X.
Senior Firmware Engineer
Designed and implemented embedded firmware to control various lithium ion energy storage systems, including:- Very large batteries for smart grid applications (~1000VDC / 16MW)- Midsize batteries for electric vehicles (300-600VDC / 100kW)- Smaller low voltage packs for OEM & industrial applications (12-48V / 4kW)The projects were fast paced and supported by a small team of dedicated engineers, so my role included a fair bit of systems engineering work in addition to firmware development. At times, I also worked with customers directly and provided on-site engineering support at various locations around the world (including Chile, Norway, Sweden, and Taiwan).
