This employer is a medical imaging device company. My role here was the database design engineer on their software development team.Helped develop a radiology information system (RIS) using JavaFX with a PostgreSQL database on Linux. Established OS and database security standards. Created Java code that interfaced other packages with database objects. Migrated objects and data (ETL) between Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Imported public data sets of pharmacy and medical records into those database platforms. Familiar with ICD10 medical codes and NDF-RT pharmacy codes after importing them from public sources. Created documentation for the system including entity relationship diagrams.

Portland, Oregon Area

Responsible for ensuring availability of six production databases in an Oracle 11g Data Guard environment. Administered dozens of development, QA and staging databases that were connected by database links and materialized views. Implemented daily changes, datafile monitoring and sizing for various database components in a rapidly changing environment. Collaborated with system admins, developers, and QA associates to solve complex problems. Overhauled alerting shell scripts that sent text messages to an on-call DBA to be more proactive rather than reactive. Enhanced scripts to automate fixes where possible and to anticipate issues before they became fault conditions. Completed database migration from SGI UNIX (IRIX) to Red Hat Linux and upgraded database from 8i to 11g.Provided operational support for range safety system that sends destruct signals to wayward missiles. Maintained a U.S. Army asset management software system running on a VMS OS with an Oracle database. Responsible for finding a replacement for this system. Wrote Oracle PL/SQL programs to populate the new system with data from the old. Wrote programs to import data from a dozen source applications. The data imported spanned many functional areas including payroll, warehousing, shipping, retail, financials and personnel. Served as central point of communication between outside consultants and end users. Wrote complex SQL queries to produce reports.
