I have been a Certified Medical Assistant with the AAMA for 25 years. I have worked in a medical office since I graduated. My job duties include clinical and administrative duties. Some days I am the only employee besides the doctor. I can start with answering the phones, putting patients on the schedule, checking them in when they arrive, checking insurance coverage, taking co-pays, putting them in a room, taking vitals and chief complaints, draw blood, give injections, send in medication refills, send referrals, check coding, check the patient out at the end of the visit, reconcile the days money, send medical records, answer billing questions, talk to insurance people, and much more. I am currently enrolled in the AAPC medical coding course.
