Home Exterior & Landscape Designer

Walker Minneapolis Home Exterior And Landscaping

Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States

I designed, managed, and assisted in the construction of a landscape and exterior home remodel on my 1936 Minneapolis bungalow. I utilized Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel to create, track, and budget a comprehensive design and project management process to the completion of this one-year project. The remodel consisted of 4 phases which included a combination of hiring professional contractors and doing some of the construction and installation work ourselves. The project included painting the exterior of the house, replacing the roof, removing a section of the lower deck to repurpose that space for raised garden beds, building a retaining wall, and installing arborvitae trees and a hydrangea shrub for privacy at the back of the property, replacing the existing grass lawn with a white clover bee lawn, installing new native plant species in a new flower garden, and adding a vinyl privacy fence and gate across the driveway.

Landscape Designer

Walker Eagan Landscaping Project

Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States

I designed, project managed, and assisted in the construction of a full front, side, and back yard landscape remodel. My design included creative solutions to reduce the cost of replacing a 100' long x 8' tall railroad tie retaining wall that was deteriorating due to the heavy shade from the sloped, wooded backyard. My idea was to bury the retaining wall with clay soil and at the same time, create a level yard space that did not previously exist. The goal was to create a usable yard that would add resale value to the home we planned to sell upon completion of the work. I found a landscape company and engineer who were able to help bring my vision to life. Completing the remaining construction between myself and my partner Neil, and tracking all sourcing and procurement with Excel, I stayed within our $45,000.00 budget and within the 1.5-year timeline before listing the home for sale.

Community Improvement Leader

Eagan, Mn

I led a 6-member citizen action team to research, study and make recommendations to the Eagan Parks and Recreation Department, the Mayor, and the City Council, about how we can collectively plan, cost and implement initiatives to improve the quality of life for children and families in Eagan. I initiated collaborative relationships with the Eagan director of Parks and Recreation and the Community Education Department, as partners and stakeholders to bring our team vision to life. Our final initiatives for improvements to recreation opportunities included a new nature playground at Patrick Eagan Park, built in 2017, a splash pad at Central Park, built in 2018, and increased hours at two local indoor swimming pools during the winter months with the addition of a large, removable, interactive water play station that could be utilized by children aged 0-12, implemented in autumn of 2017. All of our initiatives were approved while remaining within the city of Eagan's budget constraints.
