Delivering Solutions, Not Just Products: My Journey from Shipbuilding to Aquaculture TechnologyEleven years ago, I transitioned from the shipbuilding industry to the aquaculture sector. At conferences and exhibitions, our Norwegian products always generated excitement and curiosity. The most common questions were "How much does it cost?" and "Isn't it very expensive because it's from Norway?" These interactions usually ended with a simple discussion about price.However, the truly insightful customers would ask, "How much will I save on production costs by using your product?" This question required a deeper conversation, as it signaled a need for solutions, not just products.Selling solutions is fundamentally different from selling machines or devices. It involves understanding the customer's challenges, demands, and expectations, and then tailoring a solution that leverages our products and resources effectively. When we address the core issues and provide real value, the initial perception of high cost often diminishes.Providing a comprehensive solution demands a strong commitment to both pre-sales and post-sales service. It involves training the customer's operators to use the equipment correctly and ensuring that our products perform as designed to maximize their benefits. This holistic approach helps build trust and reinforces the value of our offerings.With nearly a decade of experience in the shipbuilding industry, followed by another decade dedicated to delivering solutions for sea fish farms across Southeast Asia, particularly in barramundi production, I have honed my skills in understanding and addressing customer needs.
