Travis brings psychology and technology into human-centered learning designs.In 2021, Travis and his team partnered with the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine to develop and scale a course that equips medical faculty to promote the resilience and well-being of their students. Part of a three year, $2.3m grant with the Health Resources and Services Administration, the project has the potential to impact up to 25% of all medical students in the United States.In 2019, Travis collaborated with a team of social psychologists at the University of Virginia to create the Motivating Learners Course. The course has now been completed by thousands of faculty at hundreds of institutions of higher learning across the country, with an average net promoter score of 74. This has led to initial and ongoing partnerships with 6 state-level higher education systems.In 2018, Travis moved to Virginia to earn a master's degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Virginia. For the prior 8 years he taught and designed curricula for a variety of subjects at two high schools in Houston. These courses included: Biology I, Pre-AP Biology, AP Biology, Integrated Physics and Chemistry, English II, AP Language and Composition, Leadership, and Digital Storytelling. Travis is a Teach for America alumnus (Houston, 2010) and has been formally and informally recognized by students and his colleagues as an outstanding teacher.Travis's interests include social and cognitive psychology, instructional design, and developing communities of care. He is committed to working against all forms of injustice and oppression, and desires to become a more gentle, kind, caring, thoughtful, charitable, and loving person to his friends, family, coworkers and wider community. Travis has a son, August Adams Maddry, and is joyfully married to Maren Weinberger Maddry.
