Drives a waste collection vehicle over a designated route and assists others as needed. Collects solid waste containers as assigned, empties the waste into a collection vehicle, and returns containers to the prescribed area. Operates the mechanical arm to hoist and maneuver the container. Performs waste screening at the pickup point and reports uncollectable or hazardous materials to the superintendent. Assists in enforcement by "tagging" customers for non-conformance to standard according to the department's policies and procedures. Responds to customer complaints; resolves complaints within scope of authority; explains actions to supervisor. Operates vehicle and equipment at the Transfer Station according to the Site Operations Plan. Unloads waste at designated areas, and prepares the vehicle for further use. Operates the waste collection vehicle in high-risk traffic conditions; remains alert to the surrounding environment and potential safety hazards; safely collects waste, assuring the safety of the general public. Performs operator level or preventive maintenance, to include daily cleaning, on assigned vehicle and equipment. Greases mechanical arm daily. Prepares both a Pre-Trip and Post-Trip vehicle inspection report according to the division's policies and guidelines. Trains and instructs others in the use of the vehicle and mechanical lifting device. Reports all accidents or injuries to the supervisor immediately. Completes reports as required. Complies with safety rules, policies, and procedures. Maintains radio or other communications with the supervisor and office. Makes special collections as assigned. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Personnel Rules and Regulations; possesses and maintains a valid driver's license, if required, and comply with City of Killeen driving policy accordingly.
