My wife and I had been kicking around the idea of early retirement. As we crunched the numbers we discovered that it might be possible to retire at the age of 50! Which would be almost exactly when our four children have left home. Why scrimp and save to gain freedom in the future when we could unconventionally take some time to be together as a family NOW?We sold our home and transformed a 15 passenger van and 29' travel trailer into our home on wheels. I was at the wheel for 10,000 miles starting in North Carolina and ending in Nevada. As a family we experienced many highs (Monarch Pass in CO at 11,312 ft!) and lows (a tire catching fire outside Fruita CO), but are stronger for it.
