From late 2012 till the middle of 2016 the Netherlands Cancer Institute (AVL), VUmc medical center, and AMC (all in Amsterdam) were collaborating in a joint initiative to realise the Amsterdam Proton Therapy Center (APTC). At APTC I was responsible for the day-to-day management of the programme. By project closing the permit from the Ministry of Health was obtained, the vendor of the proton therapy equipment pre-awarded using Best Value Procurement, financing arranged, and the tender for the definitive design of the patient building to commence.
