• Dr. Tony Reid is the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Scientific Officer, and cofounder of EpicentRx, Inc. At EpicentRx, Tony built a fully integrated research and development team that has overseen the invention and advancement of multiple therapeutic and device candidates into the clinic in several therapeutic areas from cancer to supportive care. Dr. Reid has been a professor at UC San Diego for over two decades where he focuses on cancer gene therapy, oncolytic viral therapy, and Gastrointestinal (GI) oncology. In his time at UCSD, he has also been the co-director of the GI program, director of the clinical trials office and most recently the Director of the Early Phase Clinical Research Program at the Moore’s UC San Diego Comprehensive Cancer. • Dr. Reid has managed a portfolio of phase I and II clinical trials and has conducted over 80 clinical trials with an emphasis on novel agents, early phase studies and first in man studies, which gives him unparalleled experience in early clinical research, terminal populations, and regulatory affairs. On this basis, he served as Medical Director for the Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study, a cooperative agreement between the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the UC San Diego. Dr. Reid is a core member of the CT2 program which provides an infrastructure to open communication among basic and clinical researchers and accelerates the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic agents. • Dr. Reid’s research interests are derived from his PhD thesis work which demonstrated that tumor cells often lack an effective response to interferon and, consequently, can be susceptible to lysis by viruses. This work led to a collaboration with Dr. Franck McCormick where Reid led several critical clinical trials on one of the original oncolytic viruses, Onyx-015. His research work has resulted in several awarded patents for a novel oncolytic vector designed to selectively express genes and peptides. His laboratory has done pioneering work on developing fusion proteins that can be expressed from this oncolytic virus and has led to patents on the use of this system to express a TGFb receptor trap protein. This technology has been licensed by several biotechnology companies and has moved into early phase clinical testing.
