my career has spanned both sides of the investment banking and asset management divide. My first role was at UBS (Phillips and Drew prior to the takeover). Back in the 1980's in the early days of exchange traded derivatves, my role as sales contact involved a substantial amount of advisory and educational work as well as outright sales. I particularly speciaised in the technical aspects of the markets in fields such as hedging, arbitrage and option valuation. Over the 14 years I spent there we built the business up into one of the largest fixed income brokerage operations targetting asset mangers and hedge funds. However following the merger with Swiss Bank in 1998 I was given the opportunity to switch into asset management with what was then Commercial Union but is now recently renamed as Aviva. Here I continued to work in fixed income markets acting as an active fund manager on both pension fund assets and the successful G7 hedge fund. I specialised in advising on the liabilty matching of portfolios and active LDI strategies for pension funds covering all aspects of both real assets, inflation and derivative overlays. Following a strategic review in 2013 I become head up UK Sovereign Bonds and expanded our LDI business managing a team of 5 specialists. In October 2015 I took up my current role as head of LDI and Sovereign Bonds at the Pension Protection Funds, one of the largest pension funds in the UK where I have been responsible for insourcing our LDI capability and managing our successful bond and inflation hedging program.Specialties: Active LDI strategies and derivative overlays for pension fund liability solutions.
