Area Manager (Production) For Refining South West UnitsSasol Nov 2011 - Oct 2014South AfricaLeadership & Results:→ Became the youngest Area Manager (Production) in Sasol Synfuels at the age of 26. → Selected to be the Refining Production Project Leader for the entire West Refinery Shutdown in 2014. Not only covering my 4 plants of responsibility but the remaining 8 within the Refinery. The preparations were a success and I was given the opportunity to present to the Executive Committee for Sasol Synfuels.→ Developed and executed a comprehensive change management process to address the culture concerns around safety and accountability in my team. As a result the following results were achieved on both safety and operations from FY13-FY14.1. A 250% increase in training and promotions.2. Development of over 50 operating procedures to drive safety.3. An 83% reduction in the process incidents measured by the FER-SI.4. A 200% increase in occupational safety drivers (BBS).5. Schedule compliance of 98.9% against a target of 95%.6. Quality compliance of 99.92% against a target of 98%.7. Successful FY14 shutdowns meeting all requirements on safety, integrity, schedule and cost.8. Customer Satisfaction of 88% above a target of 85%.9. Savings of over A$500 000 due to Continuous Improvement initiatives.→ Developed an innovative monitoring system in order to achieve the highest safety operating (OWAP) compliance for Refining West. The monitoring system also helped to reduce product flaring on my units by 72%. This system was also adopted by the Refining Operational manager and later used for other applications within Refining. -
Acting Area Manager (Production) For Market & Process IntegrationSasol May 2011 - Nov 2011South Africa→ Managed the production scheduling, performance evaluation, blending and tank management for the total oil and condensate streams in Refining (23 plants in total). Leading a team of 5 people we were nominated for “Innovation Team of the Year” at the Sasol Luminous Awards for the work completed for the unplanned U228 shutdown in Dec 2010 – Jan 2011 which prevented significant cut-backs to the upstream plants and product wastage. -

On average I lectured 40 students during the evening over two semesters. -
Process Engineer For Market & Process IntegrationSasol Jan 2008 - Dec 2010South Africa→ Coordinated and integrated the production units and tanks within the Tar Value Chain through value chain optimization, inventory modeling, tank management, system modifications and production meetings to achieve the committed production volumes. These actions resulted in no cutbacks to the Gas Factory; minimal liquid losses due to dumping and a volume savings of approximately A$10 million.→ Designed and implemented the performance evaluation system for the Liquid Refineries (Tar Value Chain, SLO Value Chain and Octane & Condensate Value Chain) that played a significant part in enabling Synfuels to meet their customer commitments to Sasol Oil and Heating Fuels for 5 successive months. This was a major improvement over the previous year’s performance.→ Identified and quantified the financial impact of the inefficient cooling system on the Tar Distillation units. Obtained sign-off from Business Evaluation for the preliminary business case to replace the cooling water system at the Tar Distillation Units that would result in a benefit of A$9.7 million over the lifetime of the system (~10 years). -
