Hi! My name is Trinity Flaten and I am a journalism student at the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. As a copy editor at The Daily Texan I gained experience copy editing, fact checking, proofreading and furthered my knowledge of AP Style. Between my experience at the Texan and the skills I perfected in my journalism classes with the help of great professors, I became an Editorial Intern for Texas Connect, UT's faculty and staff magazine. At Texas Connect, I participated in weekly staff meetings where I pitched story ideas, collaborated with other interns, the editor, publishers, and the graphic design and advertising departments. As an intern, I also wrote 4-6 stories each semester for the two magazine editions, where I got to enhance my writing and interview skills. I also joined the Texan's social media department where I copy write Twitter and Facebook posts for 2-6 articles a production night and collaborate with other department members. I have since worked my way up to social media editor, where I oversee any and everything on The Daily Texan's Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts. In this role, I edit general staffers' copy written for article promotions, handle and write briefs for all breaking news events for our socials and collaborate with other departments, such as video and design, to make our Instagram as appealing as possible. As Texas Exes' social media and marketing intern, I help come up with marketing strategies for events and merchandise. I also write captions for all the Alcalde, the alumni magazine, article posts and make almost all of our Instagram Reels. I occasionally get the opportunity to collaborate with the Alcalde team and help write digital content for them.
