In 2015 I taught myself iOS development during my free time in high school to bring an app idea to life. Little did I know then, but iOS development would turn into one of my favorite hobbies and career. The first published version of my app idea (Spotter - Social Map) was little more than spaghetti code that somehow managed to do what I wanted, but I have since been iteratively improving my craft as a programmer. At Trinity University I studied Computer Science where I was able to solidify my programming foundation to become a well rounded programmer who understands what my code is doing under the hood. While studying at university I was exposed to many different programming languages and focuses but I continue to prefer working on iOS applications in Swift.I enjoy working on side projects and still continue to improve my original app project, Spotter - Social Map. Over the last several months I have re-designed Spotter - Social Map and am currently creating a new version that I plan to release in Q4 of 2022. Outside of my personal projects I have worked professionally as an iOS Developer for freelance projects, at Zappos, at HomeAdvisor (now Angi), and currently at accesso. Today, I do my part to keep the iOS codebases I work on clean and maintainable following SOLID principles. I enjoy writing unit tests that give myself and team members confidence that our code is working now, and in the future. I also enjoy refactoring code and trying new software design patterns that improve the health of the codebase or make development easier from the start. My favorite UI design pattern is currently MVVM coupled with a reactive framework like Combine. I find that MVVM + Combine is a nice middle ground between design patterns like MVC that can get out of hand if not carefully maintained and VIPER which is great for decoupling view components from business logic and data models but can have heavy overhead.
