I was lifeguarding the pool deck on a normal Saturday afternoon when a long whistle blast was blown. A bloodied and non-responsive individual was lying prone on the pool deck. It appeared he had overdosed, seized, hit his head, and was unresponsive as a result. I moved swiftly to render aid. He was breathing but had a weak pulse and was still unresponsive. I administered a 10-second sternum rub, and the victim popped up in a panic. I managed to calm him and tend to his head wound until EMS arrived. This was a test not many have ever had to take, but I knew in the moment that I could and would perform under those moments of extreme pressure.Determined to continue my service, I am now enrolled as a cadet in the Air Force ROTC program at Arizona State University and will receive my commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Spring of 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and a Minor in Military Leadership. I currently hold a sport pilot license and will achieve my private pilot license before the end of 2022. Over the summers, I still work as an Aquatics Assistant Manager for the Goodyear Recreation Center. Prior to starting my college career, I became the Vice President of the Teen Division within the non-Profit “Karma Connects” where we financially sponsored an event each quarter to help a person or organization in need. I also was a member of the Goodyear Youth Commission, where I was able to voice and act on the issues I noticed within my community. When I am not in school or working, you can find me enjoying a nice book with a cup of coffee, sitting in the brisk wind outside a café, or pushing through a painfully long run. I love listening to podcasts (especially about aviation) and hope one day to have my own! If you look up to the clouds overhead, you may even see me flying by in the sport plane I avidly fly.I am always looking for new mentorship opportunities and connections with similar-minded individuals, so if any of what I mentioned above appeals to you, feel free to reach out via email. I would love to connect.
