About Trond Botnen
I have been involved in civil society and party politics from the mid-eighties until now, and have accumulated a broad skillset and deep experience in most areas connected to working for political change. My main areas of interest are environment / climate, peace / conflict / security / human rights, development assistance, and democratisation / elections.My Master in poltiical science focused on international relations, international environmental issues, and economics. This gave me a sound understanding of political-economic models and analysis, and the main environmental and international issues.In civil society I have worked in the development sector more or less continuously since 2005, specialising in MEAL (monitoring, evaluation, accountability & learning), capacity building, project management and risk management. In addition to this, elected office in many CSOs have given me the opportunity to specialise in political advocacy, communiation and organisational development.I have been involved in party politics from 1985 to 2005 (Liberal Party) and from 2018 (Green Party), learning about national and international political and administrative systems, policy development , political campaigning and democratic systems. In addition, I have been election observer for the EU and the OSCE, gaining extra experiende with democratisation and elections.Internationally, I know Latin-America, the Middle-Easat and the EU well, and use Spanish in addtition to English fluency.Summary of experience:- More than 30 years of experience in NGO leadership and management, including 5 years as NGO accountant- More than 20 years of experience in international co-operation in different areas- More than 20 years of experience in political campaigning (both from party politics and NGOs)- More than 20 years of experience in managing and co-ordinating projects, including monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting- More than 15 years of experience a trainer in subjects such as project management, international development, conflict sensitivity, conflict transformation and civil resistance- 1,5 year of experience in living and working in conflict areas and developing countries (Sierra Leone, Palestine, Kosovo, Kazakhstan & Sri Lanka) and 1 year of having lived abroad (Bolivia)- Qualified as Peace and Conflict Consultant at the Academy for Conflict Transformation in Germany in 2007- Expert in civil resistance since 2009 – through courses at USIP/ICNC and Fletcher School/Tufts University- Trainer and consultant through personal company since 2016.
