I am a fourth-year student at the Ohio State University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering with a concentration in computer graphics and game design. During my time at OSU, I’ve become proficient programming in several languages, including Java, C#, C, and Linux Command Bash. I have also grown quite capable of taking knowledge I have of programming languages to help learn new programming languages. I have learned to program in several environments, including Eclipse, Visual studio, and the Linux command terminal. In my second semester of my first year, I participated in the Fundamentals of Engineering Honors Spring Design Project, where four other students and I had to create a fully autonomous robot in three months. For this project, I took the role of project manager, dividing up tasks and documenting our work, while also troubleshooting our robot’s code. In the end, our robot won first prize for Outstanding Achievement in Engineering. This past semester I completed my first project course, were I worked on a team on developing a 2-D platformer level over the course of the semester, under a scrum design framework. This project gave me more experience working in a team and introduced me to several design patterns to use in designing complex systems.On my own, I have started teaching myself game development in the Unity engine, working primarily with learning how to develop games in the Unity environment and code in C#. I have also started to teach myself about languages I’m less familiar with and hone my skills on broader computer science concepts, like algorithm analysis. I like taking steps outside of the classroom to strengthen my knowledge of computer science when I can; not only does it end up helping in the classroom, but it also helps me strengthen my overall developer skills.
