As the managing editor and co-founder of Descendant Publishing in 2018, Troy is pursuing the vision to publish epic Christian novels and media combined with Creative Literacy programs. As an educator, department leader, and mentor in secondary and higher education classrooms for 10+ years, Troy has developed and applied effective learning strategies for diverse student populations. Maintaining a comfortable yet professional atmosphere for students to engage and act, he has seen consistent results in state-mandated testing in the social studies subjects. At East Dayton Christian School, Troy was able to implement project-based and socially conscious lessons that motivated students to engage in learning on their own. Through peer-learning and community advocacy activities, students made connections with social studies in a way that affected them personally, thus driving up learning efficacy tremendously. At Cedarville University, Troy has mentored and instructed other teacher candidates using the same successful techniques through the Social Studies Middle and Adolescent/Young Adult Teacher Education Program. Students pursuing these education levels in the social studies field were able to incorporate powerful strategies that allowed their own students to become self-motivated in the learning process.More recently, as the author of three YA novels, Troy has used his background in education to help found Descendant Publishing. Aside from creating exciting stories, Descendant Publishing aspires to partner with schools, home-school programs, and libraries to help educators improve literacy among children and adults.
