Community Engagement ResearcherPortland Community College Jul 2016 - Jul 2017Portland, Oregon AreaI developed a 225-page community engagement capacity assessment for PCC’s Community Engagement department. I assembled qualitative and quantitative data into a comprehensive resource binder for PCC's College Advancement Office. Areas of research include: government officials and agencies, educational institutions and partners, civic and community organizations, print and digital media, and business and industry. Additionally, I provided background research and organization for PCC's successful 2017 $185 million bond campaign. -
Project CoordinatorPortland State University Jun 2015 - Jun 2016Portland, Oregon AreaI worked for the Dean of the College of Urban and Public Affairs (CUPA) on special projects relating to student outreach, recruitment, retention, and success. I designed and implemented a two-tiered campaign to promote CUPA's graduate programs through direct outreach to prospective graduate students. I sought to increase graduate applications while also laying the groundwork for new strategic relationships between CUPA and academic institutions throughout the Pacific Northwest. I was proud to have succeeded in increasing graduate applications in CUPA, as well as initiating key strategic relationships throughout the region. The Graduate Recruitment Plan identified key academic institutions and programs where CUPA should be recruiting. I developed a list of faculty, administrators, and staff throughout these institutions who had an interest in their students' graduate school choices. I traveled to various colleges and universities throughout the Pacific Northwest to speak with prospective students. I also organized and hosted two graduate fairs at PSU (one targeted towards undergraduates, the other targeted towards mid-career professionals). I continued to connect with prospective students by answering their questions about their program(s) of interest, PSU, or Portland, and to help facilitate their application to CUPA. -
Political Outreach CoordinatorHilltop Public Solutions Aug 2014 - May 2015Portland, Oregon AreaI coordinated four political outreach projects for Path to Victory and Hilltop Public Solutions over an eight month period. Areas of engagement included natural resources, agriculture, renewable energy, and international trade. My role was to expand our political coalitions by managing outreach to community leaders: elected officials, business owners, and organizations.I researched client public policy priorities and used the data to draft talking points, form emails, and policy “asks”. I developed a spreadsheet of relevant elected officials and community leaders to connect with to influence them to take action on the policy we were working on. I educated these elected officials, small business owners, and other concerned citizens about public policy issues important to their community and persuaded them to take action. I then drafted public comments and letters to the editor for them to submit on these topics.
