When I was five years old, I decided that I wanted to become an Olympian. Thirteen years later, that crazy dream turned into a reality. I’m now a 3x Olympian in Luge and am currently training for the opportunity to compete on my third Olympic team in 2022. My path to becoming an elite athlete certainly wasn’t a straight one, but I’ve enjoyed and learned from every moment.My athletic career has taught me how to set lofty yet achievable goals. Some of my achievements in sport include-• 2x World Championship medalist• 10x World Cup medalist• U23 World Champion• Youth Olympic ChampionThe list above, however, leaves out so many of the races that I lost. It’s true that results matter, but I believe that my losses have contributed the most to my personal growth. Through my failures in sport, I have learned to hold myself accountable for the results I achieve. Further, I have become receptive to feedback and criticism so that I can adapt for future competitions.In addition to my athletic career, I am also a student. I am currently a Senior at the University of Florida, working towards a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, which I plan to complete in August 2021. Completing my degree while traveling the world has proven to be an exciting challenge. It’s not uncommon for me to have to take a final in the middle of the night or complete an essay on a trip between countries. I have developed strict time management and self-discipline skills to overcome the challenge of studying while competing. To date, I haven’t missed a deadline.Through my studies of business, I have noticed a parallel between business and sport. Both settings entail a competitive environment in which the execution of strategic plans determines results. My goal when I retire from sport is to enter into a career that challenges my competitive nature in the same way that Luge has for the past fourteen years.
