Hope Vang previously worked as Gender Justice Co-Director at Freedom, Inc. and Finance Associate at Freedom, Inc.. Hope Vang holds Bachelor Of Arts - Ba, Human Development And Family Studies, General from University Of Wisconsin-Madison.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies in May of 2018. Through several courses and extracurricular experiences from UW-Madison, I learned how individuals develop socially and how to approach people from different backgrounds. I also learned how children, specifically, grow and develop socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively. In addition, some of the courses I took helped me learn about complex family systems so I can communicate with family members separately.Through all my experiences in college and my study abroad time in Seoul, South Korea, I developed a deep passion for creating spaces for women, girls and LGTBQTI+ people to not only live comfortably, but to thrive. I live for thrill, so I am very project oriented. I enjoy working on projects rather than staying on one specific program. My biggest accomplishment in college was co-leading the Niam Laus Niam Hluas signatory circle. I enjoyed providing space for Hmong women in college to just be themselves. We launched our Breaking the Silence collaboration with the Hmong American Student Association where we discussed topics that were often ignored in the Hmong community. We brought in Hmong experts who were able to share their knowledge and expertise, which created dialogue in the Hmong student body. When I started at Freedom, Inc., I assisted in administrative operations, building management, and office operations. Shortly after, I was given more duties to create program agendas and carry them out for Hmong and Black youth, and contribute to the Police Free Schools campaign. I was able to create a new program for Hmong women, so there would be a space for youth who aged out of the youth programs. I worked with the youth for about a year, and ultimately stayed with my role as the Administrative Assistant and Program Coordinator for the Hmong Women's Group. My role as the Administrative Assistant evolved to the Financial Associate because as an organization, we were growing very quickly. My passion for overseeing expenses and budgets led me to choose finance over operations. I transitioned out of coordinating the Hmong Women's Group in early 2022, and remain in the finance department.
