About Tyla Ricks, Phd
I remember being in the classroom and coming to the realization that although teaching was my passion, my true purpose was to be an advocate for early care educators and the field . Identifying myself as a former teacher in early care and education has influenced and impacted the decisions I have made in regards to my research and raising the voices of educators. Through my previous and current experiences, I have been able to provide a space for educators to use their voice and for me to amplify their experiences through professional development opportunities, presentations, trainings, and research. As a recent graduate of the Human Development and Family Studies Doctoral program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, I have been able to combine research and my practical experiences to reach audiences from various backgrounds and experiences. I seek to continue the important work of demonstrating the importance of early care and education and the educators who impact children and their families through a systems level approach (e.g., classroom, program, and policy) and from multiple vantage points (research and practice). Specialties: Creating, implementing, and facilitating professional development in early care and education settings; work environment/organizational climate; translating research and data to various audiences
