CurrentThe State of Alaska Working Group was started because the State did have Level A HazMat response capabilities. The first meeting and original committee members were representatives from ADEC, EPA, OSHA, Anchorage Fire Department, USCG, and the Fairbanks HazMat Team. Those original meetings resulted in ADEC securing funding for the development of two Level A Teams. Fairbanks signed up first in 1997 and Anchorage Fire Department signed the agreement a few months later. In 1998 ADEC funded a joint ammonia training session in Kodiak that brought AFD and FNSB HMRT to Kodiak island to work with Kodiak Fire and the Ammonia Institute.The Statewide HazMat Working Group works to align HazMat response throughout the State, develop recommendations, sponsor training, and most importantly helps with developing relationships amongst the teams/groups.

CurrentI joined the FNSB HMRT in 1995 as a Technician, I was soon promoted to Team Captain, in 1999 I was once again promoted to Assistant Chief and Team Training Officer, in 2011 I was selected to become the Chief of HazMat Team.
