Project Title: SPRUCE DecompositionThis SULI position will be a part of a large research project investigating the response of peatland ecosystems to climate change. The Spruce and Peatland Responses Under Climatic and Environmental Change (SPRUCE) project at ORNL is a large-scale experiment examining the effect of warming (0 to +9 °C) and elevated CO2 concentrations (ambient, +800-900 ppm) on a black spruce-Sphagnum bog in northern Minnesota (http://mnspruce.ornl.gov/). This position duties include organic matter sample processing and chemistry analysis.By examining litter decomposition in peatlands and responses to climate change this research will help contribute to our understanding of how high-carbon peatland ecosystems will respond to climate change, and the effects on downstream.
