Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of Cooper/Smith—a mission driven, social purpose organization that pushes the frontiers of data use in real-world, complex systems. Former Special Advisor for Efficiency, Accountability, and Strategic Planning to the U.S. Department of State and Health Economist for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 18 years of experience in program management and evaluation, study design, policy analysis, cost and cost-effectiveness analysis, modeling and forecasting, data system development, and clinical research. Have worked across a number of public institutions and NGOs over the years. I focus now on local-level capacity for enhanced decision-making and data use. Currently doing a postgraduate behavioral science program at LSE, where I'm learning the most up-to-date thinking and behavioral models that help explain cognition and decision-making, particularly in complex, group systems and under conditions of uncertainty and trade-offs. My research focuses on the role of heuristics, bias, preferences, and utility in the cultural and socio-economic contexts of LMICs, with the goal of influencing better policy development, public service design, and ethical appraisal - particularly for new tech as it comes online. Recently relocated from Malawi to London. Dabble in other businesses and creative projects.
