Primary Research Topic: Evaluation of liquefaction triggering potential due to induced seismicity. Efforts include field investigations, laboratory testing, processing and manipulation of ground motions, site response analysis, and statistical regression.Other Research Areas: Rapid evaluation of potential airfield subgrades using geophysical methods and other non-destructive surface tests. Dewatering, in-situ improvement, and stability of coal ash.

Completed field investigations and engineering designs in support of the Army Corps’ military and civilian missions. Military work included the design of airfields, hangars, and other facilities at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and other military installations within the Northwest Division of the US Army Corps. Civilian work included flood risk reduction, slope stabilization, environmental restoration, cultural resource protection, and other projects.Supported Seattle District’s levee safety mission including levee inspections, risk assessments, levee design and construction, emergency flood fighting, sponsor coordination, and public outreach.Served as a geotechnical engineer for the Northwestern Division Risk Cadre working under the Army Corps’ Risk Management Center. Tasked with performing risk assessments and issue evaluation studies as well as developing interim risk reduction plans for high risk dams and levees in the Army Corps’ national dam portfolio.

Primary Research Topic: Spatial variability and early strength-gain behavior of asphalt emulsion-treated road base used in reclaimed pavement systems.Other Research Areas: Cement-stabilization of road base, micro-cracking of cement-treated base, frost-heave in high-fines subgrades, bridge deck testing, moisture and vapor transmission in pavement subgrades during freeze-thaw cycling.
