I am a professional in grounding in effective research techniques, equitable social justice studies, and inclusive teamwork. In addition to my liberal arts education, my practical studies emphasized history, equity, psychology, and sociology. My intention in earning my degree is to help communities reclaim their collective power by dismantling unjust systems, eliminating barriers to services, and working in solidarity to create sustainable, meaningful solutions. I want to elevate and empower our diverse communities by encouraging a holistic approach to seek healthy mind-body-spirit connections. I want to provide effective, culturally appropriate counseling and therapy that is tailored for our diverse communities. I intend on continuing my academic journey by enrolling in the University of Washington’s Master of Social Work through the Family Counseling Program. There, I will research strategies to combat social inequities, specifically as they relate to the disproportionate effects of trauma on families displaced by war, civil strife, or economic disparity. What have I done so far?- I encouraged new perspectives, which aided my role as a student board member. I used this opportunity to foster inclusion and solidarity between students, with an emphasis on Cultural Humility. - I sought practical opportunities to embrace my leadership path when I realized my community was under-represented on the local school boards. In 2017, I ran as a candidate for Tukwila school board. Although I did not win the seat, the campaign changed the way the community thinks about civic engagement. I personally registered over 1,500 new voters. - In my concept of Cultural Humility to create a bridge of learning and essential exchanges of diverse perspectives. I successfully brought communities together in problem solving solutions as a team.
