About Ulf Thrane

I promote a holistic view on fungi by linking functional characteristics and species concepts. My mycological knowledge is broad, however focused on common filamentous fungi – the moulds - that include species used in biotech, pharmaceutical and food industries, but also many highly toxigenic species and species pathogenic to humans and plants. The use of functional characteristics like morphology, physiology, ecological parameters and profiles of secondary metabolites, including mycotoxins, is very valuable for solving industrial problems with fungal contaminations or mould problems in domestic dwellings. The holistic view is also valuable for development of safe fungal cell factories.My current activities includes consultancy for private industry and governmental bodies, as well as dissemination of natural science to peers and laymen.
