Through my solid background and considerable experience in fungal biodiversity, systematics and physiology I offer consultancy for private industry and governmental bodies.The holistic view is on the biotic and abiotic regulation of the physical and biochemical traits of fungi in response to environmental influences – the fungal phenome. In addition I offer dissemination of natural science to peers and laymen. Through my presentations at e.g. public schools and high schools, I do my best to demystify the world of fungi and to ignite an interest in biological sciences

Through my solid background and considerable experience in fungal biodiversity, systematics and physiology, I was committed to the exploitation of the biodiversity of fungal species, their utilization in basic research as well as applications in biotechnology. Focus was on the biotic and abiotic regulation of the physical and biochemical traits of fungi in response to environmental influences – the fungal phenome. Fungal biodiversity and phenotyping• Exploiting the mycobiota in natural and artificial niches with focus on the functionality of fungi through a species-specific multidisciplinary characterisation.• Understand and utilise the natural function of fungal species in ecological niches for an intelligent selection of unconventional fungal strains with new and promising functional traits.• Instrumental in establishing the global IBT fungal culture collection, which currently stores more than 35,000 different fungal strains as a scientific service.Extrinsic parameters and fungal products• Understand the regulation of fungal growth and metabolism by abiotic parameters like humidity, temperature and nutrition.• Metabolites in focus are biotech products (e.g. colorants, enzymes and drug leads) as well as unwanted compounds (e.g. mycotoxins and off-flavours) Communication• Skilled communicator with more than 150 oral presentations at domestic and international congresses, seminars, and workshops• Teaching at DTU in biotech, food and indoor related mycology since 1984

Responsible for the content of the 2-year Master programme in Biotechnology, which includes a yearly update to match the courses offered by DTU departments in dialogue with the Dean of Studies at DTU. A major task was student guidance to help the students with selecting courses, studies abroad, locating a thesis project and other subjects related to their studies.
